Autism Institute

Faculty Involvement

Prior to the establishment of the Autism Institute, faculty in the School of Education have:

  • Pursued advanced studies and best practices in ASD
  • Placed students as trainers with ASD families
  • Hosted Parents of Autistic Children (POAC) workshops
  • Assisted in placing Gwynedd-Mercy College education graduates as ASD teachers in local school districts
  • Facilitated the Extended School Program at local schools for ASD students

Deborah Schadler, PhD, assistant professor and coordinator of undergraduate education at Gwynedd-Mercy College, is the facilitator of the Autism Institute. She has been a special educator for more than 35 years. Schadler completed the post-baccalaureate Professional Certificate in Autism from Penn State’s College of Education and has several years of practical experience working with autistic children.
