Internship Quotes

Mendoza

Regi Mendoza ’11, Accounting

"I prepared tax returns for individuals at Gable, Peritz, Mishkin, LLP in Spring House during my spring 2010 semester.   Participating in my internship meant a lot to me because it helped me prepare for the real world I'm about to enter."

Mary BethMary Beth Griffin ’11, Accounting

I interned during the summer of 2010 in the State and Local Tax (SALT) department at KPMG LLP, a big-four accounting firm located in Center City Philadelphia.

During my internship, I gained valuable professional experience and insights while assisting in the preparation of sales and use tax returns for KPMG clients. I worked at a client site (Comcast) for a couple of weeks helping with a reverse audit.

Another big project I worked on was for the State of Georgia. I prepared a spreadsheet with about 20 different states on it so that I could compare tax rates. Essentially the State of Georgia wanted to know how competitive it is with its tax incentives and the cost of doing business in the state, versus the 20 other states I researched.  This information was put into an Excel model which showed us which states were the best for bringing in new business.

"My internship was a valuable experience and confirmed for me that I am in the right career field. I am so happy I had the chance to complete an internship, which has led to an offer for full-time employment. The GMC School of Business has prepared me well for my career in accounting."

I completed two internships while at Gwynedd-Mercy College.

In the fall of 2009, I did an internship in the Public Relations & Marketing department at Gwynedd-Mercy College. During that time, I learned a lot and was able to perform many different tasks. I participated in meetings and gave input concerning strategic marketing plans for the college that included plans to market the graduate programs and rebrand the college. I attended Integrated Marketing Communications Committee meetings. Furthermore, I helped plan a black-tie gala that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Nursing program . I was entrusted with the task of creating a slide show that displayed the program’s history. When I was not busy with meetings, I wrote press releases on events, activities, and student, faculty and staff achievements.

“I feel any internship is invaluable for a student’s future because of the experience it provides yet this internship was so much more than just an experience for my resume. It was a learning opportunity. I was free to ask questions and try out many new things. By the time it was complete, I knew I was meant to work in the field of marketing.”

In the summer of 2010, I was a market research intern at RDTeam in Limerick.  I was quickly thrown into the world of market research and learned many useful skills. I collected quantitative and qualitative data for product research through one-on-one and group interviews and on-site surveys. I developed screeners, re-screeners and question maps to present data. I performed data entry and analysis and aided in the recruiting process through cold calls, surveys and helped develop the sample population. I hosted clients and recruits during tests. I even had the opportunity to attend a Qualitative Research Consultants Association Workshop.

“This internship gave me a firm grasp on what was ahead of me in my career and what to expect. I quickly grew more appreciative of my GMC professors and the things they had taught me. I felt very prepared for the task at hand and for the future.”

Sabrina Addesso ’12, Business Administration/Marketing

During the fall 2010 semester, I interned at Severino & Son Inc., a company in Colmar that sells marble and granite countertops. I worked with customers showing them products and also handled their files. I learned the business accounting software, QuickBooks, and generated estimates, processed invoices, and updated the system with financial information of the company.
"I gained first-hand experience and a better understanding of the financial operations of a family- owned business.”

Stephanie Wood  ’11, Accounting

“All of the skills I learned from Gwynedd-Mercy College have been put to good use. I am a staff accountant on the audit and accounting team at Kreischer Miller in (town). Everything that Professor Silvesti taught us about (both soft and technical skills) is very relevant. Thank you for preparing me well. I came into training my first week at KM and was able to follow everything we learned in class thanks to all of my accounting professors. Coming to GMC was one of the best things I have done for myself and I could not be happier with my education and career at this moment.”
