TOP FIVE FASTEST GROWING OCCUPATIONS
ARE IN COMPUTER INFORMATION SCIENCES

According to the 2002-2003 Edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the top five fastest growing occupations for individuals who have obtained a Bachelor's degree are in computer information sciences and it's related fields.

Gwynedd-Mercy College's Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Sciences (CIS) will prepare our students for career opportunities in these occupations. Gwynedd-Mercy College's CIS degree concentrates on the study of computers, language and applications. It is integrated with a secondary area of study in business concepts. The student also selects from one of three available 'tracks' as a point of specialization within the CIS curriculum. The choices are a Database, Networking, or Programming track.

Individuals working in the computer field, with a related Bachelor degree, will have continued job opportunities. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer occupations in general are among the fastest growing occupations. They are also projected to have the largest numerical increases in employment between 2000 and 2010.

The rapid employment growth in the computer and data processing services industry, which employs the greatest numbers of computer software engineers, network and computer systems administrators, network systems and data communications analysts, and database administrators, should result in very favorable opportunities for those college graduates with at least a bachelor's degree in computer science and practical experience working with computers. Employers will continue to seek computer professionals with strong programming, systems analysis, intrapersonal, and business skills.

Gwynedd-Mercy College's Computer Information Sciences degree will prepare our graduates to be a part of the rapid growth that is projected for this industry.
