Computer and Information Sciences TestimonialsErik Potemski - CO-OP Program, Expected Graduation May 2007
The CIS program at GMC has taught me the skills I need to be successful at a job in this field. It is important, in my opinion, to take advantage of the co-op program at GMC for several reasons. The hands-on experience of working with a company gives students an idea of what to expect when they graduate college. It is also excellent work experience to include on a résumé. The co-op experience is also great as it helps with the transition from the life of a college student to that of a professional in a workplace. It is a great feeling to go to work each day at a company where everyone accepts me as a fellow colleague and not just “some college student.” I have a great sense of pride and accomplishment, as I feel that I have truly become an adult in the work force. I attribute this sense of accomplishment to the co-op experience and the CIS program at Gwynedd-Mercy College . In general, the CIS field is very interesting because it is constantly changing. The CIS field continues to grow and offers many different and new opportunities each day. Nowadays, technology is central in almost every aspect of life; therefore, working in the CIS field is a smart choice when trying to decide on a college major. That decision is even easier for students who have an interest in the field prior to enrolling in college. I took my personal interest in working with computers and decided to pursue that in college. Very shortly, I will graduate with a degree in a field that I enjoy working in. It was a decision that I am fortunate to have made because one day I will be employed doing something that I enjoy, and that is what is most important in life."
