Gerontology

Certificate

Gwynedd - Mercy College was one of the earliest institutions to offer a certificate in gerontology nationwide. As the baby boomer generation ages, the demand for specialists in this field of aging and related social issues increases accordingly.

The certificate program is offered in conjunction with another major, or to students who already hold an associate's degree.

Gerontology addresses the intellectual, social and emotional needs of older people. Studies include: biology of aging, death and dying, theories of counseling, social psychology of aging, ethical issues, and therapeutic activities.
