Criminal Justice Guest Speakers

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey spoke to criminal justice students regarding their experiences in the field. “You have to really want to do it to be successful,” he said. Commissioner Ramsey urged students to complete their degrees. “The key is finishing your education.”

Michael Chitwood, Upper Darby Superintendent of Police

Michael Chitwood spoke to students about his wide-range of experiences and accomplishments during 40 years of service in law enforcement.

Denise Kindschi Gosselin

Denise Kindschi Gosselin, author and associate professor at Western New England College, spoke to students about family violence. The event was sponsored by Sigma Phi Sigma and the Criminal Justice Club.

Sgt. Scott Clark, Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department

Sgt. Scott Clark, who recieved the Medal of Valor for his actions following a home invasion shootout in June 2010, spoke to criminal justice majors.

Officer Raymond Blohm, Upper Darby Police Department

Officer Raymond Blohm spoke to criminal justice majors about his experience and the criminal justice field, including the dangers that they may come across. In May 2010, Officer Blohm, 31, sustained four gunshot wounds when he had an encounter with a suspect during his 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift.

 

Criminal Justice Meet and Greet

Professionals representing many different careers in criminal justice spoke to students on Wednesday, January 14, 2009.

Victor Cooper, a security industry expert, was the Director of Facility and Stadium Security for the Philadelphia Eagles Football Team at Lincoln Financial Field from 2003-2008.

He is also a retired New Jersey State Trooper, serving from 1989 -2003.

Honorable Paul W. Tressler, a felony trial judge for Montgomery County

 

Chip Pritchett , Deputy Director of the Montgomery County Police Academy

 

Mary J. Anders, County Detective

Detective Mary Anders spoke to students in the "Crime and Deviance" class about how she protects kids and teens online by seeking predators in chat rooms and other online social devices. Detective Anders works for the District Attorney's Office of Montgomery County.

 

The Guardian Angels

Commander Scott Gallagher speaks to criminal justice majors about the history of the Guardian Angels and how their organization, made up of volunteers, helps prevent crime in communities across the United States and in some foriegn countries.
