» Upward Bound
The Upward Bound program is a comprehensive pre-college preparatory program designed to aid students who are interested in attending college.
From October through May, workshops are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at West Catholic High School and at Cardinal Dougherty High School. Eligible participants may also attend a five-week summer residential program held at Gwynedd-Mercy College.
Program offerings include: academic instruction in mathematics, science and English, tutorial and counseling services, PSAT/SAT workshops, financial aid information, visits to colleges, and cultural and social
activities.
Eligibility Criteria
Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 who are enrolled at one of the designated Diocesan city high schools and who are interested in attending college (designated schools include John W. Hallahan High School, Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, Neumann/Goretti High School, West Catholic High School, Cardinal Dougherty High School and Roman Catholic High School) ;
Applicants must be first generation in their family to attend college.
Families of applicants must meet the income guidelines set by the Federal government. For more information on the guidelines, contact the Gwynedd-Mercy College Upward Bound office at 215-646-7300 ext. 398.
Application Process
Applications for the Upward Bound Program are available in your guidance office. If you are interested in participating in the program:
Complete the application form.
Submit the application form, family income information, and two letters of recommendation from your teachers.
These should be returned to your guidance counselor's office by the due date or you may mail them directly to the Upward Bound Office at Gwynedd-Mercy College:
