NSSE logoThe National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) provides Gwynedd-Mercy College with comparative data about the extent to which its students are actively involved in educationally effective activities. Thirty-one percent of the students at GMC who were selected to participate in the survey in spring 2006 responded. Overall, the College scored well on the five benchmarks, confirming that Gwynedd-Mercy College is offering students a rich and comprehensive learning environment.

Gwynedd-Mercy College's NSSE Results:

The purpose of this survey is to assess the extent to which students engage in educationally effective activities. The information published by the organization that conducts NSSE states that it "is designed to obtain, on an annual basis, information from scores of colleges and universities nationwide about student participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development. The results will provide an estimate of how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college. Survey items on The National Survey of Student Engagement represent empirically confirmed 'good practices' in undergraduate education. That is, they reflect behaviors by students and institutions that are associated with desired outcomes of college."

NSSE surveyed 371 freshmen and 313 seniors from GMC. Nationally, 1,143,298 students at 557 schools participated in the national survey in spring 2006. Gwynedd-Mercy College performed favorably with institutions in the same Carnegie classification on 88% of the items related to college-wide outcomes such as communication skills, critical and competent use of technology, critical thinking, leadership, moral and ethical judgement, problem solving, and professional competency.
