Responsibilities:                        

  • Designs and leads the library's efforts to develop information literacy competencies in students
  • Develops and delivers library instruction sessions, handouts and online instruction resources (tutorials, pathfinders, Blackboard, etc.) both on the Gwynedd Valley campus and for off campus sites.
  • Provides reference assistance to students, faculty, staff and other users of the College library in person, online and via email and telephone.
  • Develops and delivers orientation sessions for incoming students.
  • In consultation with the Library Director, develops and maintains the reference collection and the vertical file and participates in other collection development activities.
  • In collaboration with the Systems/Reference Librarian, updates, revises and maintains the library webpage.
  • Reviews and recommends online resources for addition or deletion.
  • Develops the reference desk and instruction schedule.
  • Creates and maintains library displays, in consultation with the library director.

Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Library Science from an institution of higher learning accredited by the American Library Association or equivalent
  • Training and experience in providing bibliographic and library instruction and reference services.
  • Experience with using on-line and Internet resources in the reference setting; ability to learn web design and online tutorial design skills.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use, or willingness to learn, current Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 technologies (RSS feeds, Meebo, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • A willingness to commit to the mission and values of Gwynedd-Mercy College is imperative.
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours.
