Responsibilities:       

  • Advise students on the following: academic probation, academic suspension, poor performance, directed study, program completion, extensions, concurrent enrollment, and prerequisite course work.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and distributes elective and supplemental curriculum information.
  • Oversees all student change-of-status processes.
  • Monitors attendance, academic, and enrollment progress of students; plays lead role in communicating and advising students who have academic/attendance problems.
  • Coordinates student retention program and re-entry process.
  • Coordinates student orientation process.
  • Coordinates the selection and orientation of class representative for each cohort.
  • Conducts class visits on a scheduled basis and reports results to Program Dean/Director.
  • Acts as liaison between College and students with respect to admissions, degree options, requirements, and academic progress.
  • Manages testing programs (e.g., CLEPs) for undergraduate and graduate students; may include proctoring exams.
  • Performs pre-evaluation of college transcripts for applicants, when appropriate.
  • Addresses and/or participates in addressing and resolving student grievances and appeals.
  • Assists in the preparation of adult studies calendars to ensure appropriate courses are offered and students are being correctly placed. Monitors cohort and study group/learning team size to ensure operational effectiveness.
  • May play lead role in planning and executing commencement activities.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, student development, business, education, or related field required; master's degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience in academic advising, student services, social services, training and development, or related required.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to interact and communicate effectively with students and adult program personnel with regard to college policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
  • Willingness to commit to the Mission and Values of Gwynedd-Mercy College is imperative.
