Gwynedd-Mercy College

Job Position for a Non-Tenure-Track Position in Communication

Gwynedd-Mercy College is initiating a new Communication program focusing on mass media.  The College invites applications for a non-tenure-track assistant professor position to begin August 2010.  The incumbent would be responsible for coordinating the new communication program, as well as for development and recruitment in addition to the usual expectations of teaching, service, and scholarship.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in media communication is required; a Ph.D. in mass communication is preferred. Evidence of teaching excellence in higher education and a program of research are also required.

The successful candidate will have at least five years of professional experience in a media-related communication field and a proven ability to teach communication theory across a range of perspectives and media.  In addition, he or she is expected to provide vocational skills including interviewing, news-writing, feature-writing, editing, layout, and broadcast delivery and to oversee internships in the discipline. Candidates must be able to advise and oversee the student newspaperand must be able to develop and teach courses in communication theory and mass media.  Other expectations include student advising, service to the college, and development of links with professional media organizations in the Philadelphia area.
